Hodgkinson recorded her personal best of 1:54.61 the previous season in London.

Keely Hodgkinson finished her two-lap season with a triumph at the women-only Athlos meet in New York on Friday evening.

{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who earned third place at the World Championships recently, dominated an outstanding victory in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was only her sixth race in a season impacted by a hamstring injury.

Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) secured third place.

"I've barely raced this year so it was probably easier for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," stated Hodgkinson.

"The atmosphere at the event is crazy so it was extremely enjoyable."

The female-exclusive event filled Icahn Stadium in its second year, bringing a party atmosphere to traditional track, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is married to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was on hand to present the victors with their crowns.

Previous champions received $60,000 (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in athletics.

The competition also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and world record holder Faith K. triumphed in the mile race, finishing in 4:17.78.

American Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the sprint double.
